Dedicatoria En mi temprana juventud conocí a una joven que cautivó mi corazón. Fue mi primera novia, y fui yo también su primer y único novio. Después de cuatro años de noviazgo nos casamos, y disfrutamos de 34 años de una bella relación que además de nuestra mutua felicidad, fue coronada por nuestro más preciado tesoro: dos hijos a los que amamos entrañablemente. Esa joven se convirtió en una dama que siempre se caracterizó por su elegancia. Como esposa fue adorable, amantísima y dedicada. Como madre fue abnegada cual ninguna otra. Como profesional fue maestra ejemplar que realizó sus deberes con orgullo, responsabilidad y dedicación. A sus 50 años de edad la vida le sorprendió con la terrible enfermedad de cáncer de ovario, el cual sólo sirvió para que demostrara más allá de toda duda su temple y clase como mujer luchadora. Por cinco años lo combatió, soportando con gran valentía y estoicismo todos sus embates, nunca perdiendo su fe, ni su buen humor y optimismo. Finalmente, el 15 de Noviembre de 2004 (tristemente coincidiendo con el cumpleaños de nuestro hijo mayor) la batalla concluyó, privándonos a nosotros de su bella presencia, pero dejándola a ella victoriosa en su derrota, pues su ejemplo es y será inspiración para todos los que la conocieron. Muchas de mis Danzas existen gracias a su motivación, y todas gracias a su inspiración. Gran parte de ellas van dedicadas directamente a ella, comenzando por mi primera composición: A Sylvia; así como la composición que está escuchando en estos momentos - "Amor Eterno", compuesta a raiz de su fallecimiento como homenaje póstumo a ella y nuestro bello amor, y ganadora del Primer Premio en el Certamen del Instituto de Cultura en 2005. Por eso hoy me siento privilegiado en poder haber sido parte de la vida de esta gran mujer y que ella haya sido parte de la mía; y con este trabajo tratar de perpetuar su memoria, por lo que lo dedico con mi amor eterno a Sylvia T. Rodríguez Segarra, mi adorada Sylvia. A Sylvia De todas mis canciones eres la melodía, eres el mejor verso en todas mis poesías; y aún en la distancia, después de tu partida, eres el dulce aroma que perfuma mi vida. © Luciano Quiñones Está escuchando la Danza "Amor Eterno" - de Luciano Quiñones - Ganadora del Primer Premio en el certamen del Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña en 2005 - Dedicada postumamente a mi amada Sylvia. Y... sí, era muy bella. La foto fue tomada justo seis meses antes de su fallecimiento.

Actividades XXXIX Semana de la Danza Puertorriqueña 2011     Actos de premiación concurso de Danzas Los actos de premiación del concurso de danzas del 2011 se llevarán a cabo el domingo 22 de Mayo a las 3:30 PM en el Teatro Francisco Arriví (antiguo Matienzo), en la Avenida Ponce de León, esquina calle del Parque en Santurce, PR. Además de realizar los Actos de Premiación, estaremos conmemorando el Natalicio de Juan Morel Campos, celebrando a los compositores puertorriqueños de Danza y el Mes del Compositor. Tendremos un concierto de Danzas Tradicionales a cargo de la pianista Nilda Betancourt, de Humacao la Camerata Anita Otero, y Danzas tradicionales y Contemporáneas con el Coro Augusto Rodríguez. La Semana de la Danza se le dedica este año al compositor Víctor Meléndez Donhert. Los compositores ganadores en la categoría de danza tradicional del concurso de este año fueron: Luciano Quiñones (Primer Premio), Víctor Meléndez (Segundo Premio) y Luis F. Rodríguez (Tercer Premio).    Baile de Época a celebrarse el viernes 20 de mayo de 2011, en la Plaza Las Delicias de Ponce, a partir de las 7:30 PM.  La entrada a ambas actividades es libre de costo y no se requiere invitación.

Dedication In my early youth I met a young lady who captivated my heart. She became my first girlfriend, and I also was her first and only boyfriend. After four years, we got married and enjoyed 34 years of a beautiful relationship that - in adition to our mutual happiness - was crowned by our most valued treasure: two sons who we love dearly. That girl became a lady who was always characterized by her elegance. As a wife she was adorable, very lovely and dedicated. As a mother she was self-sacrificing like no other. As a professional she was an exemplary teacher who carried out her duty with great pride, responsibility and dedication. When she reached 50 years old, life surprised her with the terrible illness of ovarian cancer, which only served for her to show beyond any doubt her great temper as a brave woman. For five years she fought it, bearing with great bravery and stoicism all its onslaughts, never losing her faith, nor her good humor and optimism. Finally, on November 15, 2004 (sadly coinciding with the birthday of our older son) the battle concluded, depriving us us of her beautiful presence, but leaving her victorious in her fight, as her example is and will be inspiration for all of those who met her. Many of my Danzas exist thanks to her motivation, and all of them thanks to her inspiration. Many of them are dedicated directly to her, beginning with my first composition, A Sylvia; as well as the composition that you are now listening to - "Eternal Love", composed shortly after her death as posthumous homage to her and our beautiful love. Therefore today I feel privileged for having been part of the life of this great woman and that she was part of mine; and with this work to try to perpetuate her memory, for which I dedicate it with my eternal love to Sylvia T. Rodriguez Segarra, my beloved Sylvia. To Sylvia You are the melody of all my songs, you are the best verse in all my poems; and even in the distance, after your departure, you are the sweet fragance that perfumes my life. © Luciano Quiñones You are listening to the Danza "Eternal Love", by Luciano Quiñones - First Prize Winner at the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture in 2005 - Dedicated posthumously to my beloved Sylvia. Activities XXXIX Danza Week 2011     Danza contest awards ceremony The awards ceremony for this year's danza composition contest will be held on Sunday May 22 at 3:30 PM at Teatro Francisco Arriví (aka Matienzo), at Ponce de León Ave and Parque St. in Santurce, PR. We'll also be celebrating Morel Campos' birthdate, and the Composers Month. There will be a traditional danzas recital by pianist Nilda Betancourt, the participation of Camerata Anita Otero from Humacao and the Augusto Rodríguez Choir. This year's danza week is dedicated to composer Víctor Meléndez Donhert. The winners for this year's contest were: Luciano Quiñones (First Prize), Víctor Meléndez (Second Prize) and Luis F. Rodríguez (Third Prize). Traditional Folk Dance - will be held on Friday May 20, 2011, at Plaza Las Delicias in Ponce, PR, from 7:30 PM on. The admission to both acts is Free and no invitations are required.
